ALLERGOLOGY

Is the science that deals with the origin, treatment and prevention of allergies.

Have you seen this before: Your nose is running, your eyes water, you have to sneeze? Then it may be that you are allergic.

One in four suffers from allergies, but only one in ten is treated properly against allergy. Proper evaluation of symptoms and treatment are essential for children and adults.

Allergy takes place when one’s own immune system responds excessively and differently to normally harmless substances called allergens. In particular, pollen, dust mites or animal hair become target of the immune system that recognizes them as foreign and then creates antibodies. These antibodies then bind to a specific type of immune cells called mast cells, which are found in our skin and our mucous membranes. Among other substances the messenger molecule histamine is excreted from the mast cells, with following consequences: Runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, itching, stomach upset or worse, life-threatening shortness of breath.

In our practice, the diagnosis and treatment of allergic rhinitis, contact dermatitis, drug and food allergies are carried out according to the latest scientific developments.

This includes, for example, skin tests (rub test, prick test, scratch test, patch test) that are carried out in our practice’s own laboratory, and laboratory tests as RAST (radioallergosorbent test), in which the patient’s blood is tested on various allergens.

Recently, we can in addition offer you an extensive laboratory testing for the maximum allergy clarification: the molecular diagnostic allergy (ImmunoCAP ISAC). The advantage of this method: through only a small amount of blood multiple allergies (eg against insect venoms, animal dander, dust mites, molds, pollen, foods, latex) can be found. Some health insurances cover the costs, unfortunately not yet all.
